The NBA Pre-Season Debut is just a little over a week away, but does anyone care? NO. Let me tell you why.

Let me start by saying, I love the game. However, what Golden State has done is created a Monopoly on NBA Championships, making it less watch worthy. If you knew the ending to a movie, would you still watch it? Possibly?.. half attentive while scrolling through your social media feeds asking “what just about happened?”, every 10-15 minutes until your significant other gets upset and sends a calculated jab right to the shoulder.

Sure, there will be some highlights, maybe even a record or two broken. But I’m not tuning in. Not until the Western Conference All-Stars disassembles. Say Demarcus “Boogie” Cousins, only comes back at 75% of what he used to be, that still puts him at an upper echelon tier of “Big Men” in today’s game. Monopolies are bad. Which is why there are laws against them.

The argument, “but they did it the right way” no longer fits. Sure, at first, no one had a problem with a Steph Curry led GSW team that was all organic. They were actually really fun– Exciting, due to them being an underdog story. Then… Then they sign, arguably, the SECOND best player in the world, AFTER two straight Finals appearances. Fast forward to the signing of Cousins (a perennial All-Star, coming back from injury or not), this is the make-up of a joke season.

First game tips off on a Saturday. What else airs on Saturdays? That’s right, the money machine called NCAA Football. Good luck competing with those ratings.

Another contributing factor is the NFL is in full swing, and people are too busy setting their weekly line-ups– in a league where there would be a wide array of outcomes of who could come out on top with Lombardi Trophy at season’s end. Sounds like a season long, fun-filled, adventure doesn’t it, NBA?

Lastly, playoff baseball. Some of the most magical moments in all of sports history has happened on the diamond in the month of October. Even in a proportional NBA league, that’s tough to compete with.

So, do yourself a favor, don’t tune in until Post Season. Even then, watch it like you would watch a re-run of “Seinfeld” or “Friends”– mouthing the lines from across the room as they come, because you’ve seen this episode before. I guess it’ll be nice watching the historic Boston Celtics make it back to the Finals? For what, though? Just to get swept?

We’re all loser’s this year (Even you, GSW fans), and much like loser’s say, “there’s always next year”. Let’s all do our part and keep our fingers crossed on all the Free Agency/ Trade rumors that is allegedly going to occur after the 2018-2019 NBA Season ends.
